    1. Wow. One of the most inspirational pieces of fiction I have ever read. John Trent writes powerfully, in a way that stirs your heart to tears and your soul to action. This book epitomizes what it means to show unconditional love to others and the ultimate, true value of that. Stirs us to take our god-given roles in bringing the light of Christ's love to the vulnerable wherever we are - for us to truly be His hands and feet on this earth. So read it! And better, Live it!! 5. I finished A Place Called Blessing: Where Hurting Ends and Love Begins a few days ago and I've been thinking since then. Some books are like that. Sometimes, I finish a book and I can immediately sit down and write about it. Other times, I have to give it a day or two to sink in, or to think about what I want to say. Honestly, it's a good book. I just can't say unequivocally that I liked it. It made me cry too much. I don't like books that make me cry. I read to either escape or learn, not to be [...]

    6. At first I wasn't real sure about this book since its not the type of book I normally read. However once I actually started reading this book the more I fell in love with it and couldn't put it down. This book is about a boy named Josh who has two brothers named Matt and Sam. There parents aren't the best. They leave the kids at home alone a lot with no food most days and sometimes no electricity. There parents are selfish and like to party and spend time with there friends. One night it catches [...]

    11. A Place Called Blessing is a story based on the original book by John Trent, The Blessing. This story takes one step further the five essential elements to being a blessing to others; meaningful touch, a spoken message, attaching high value, picturing special future, an active commitment. The story begins with Josh as a young boy and his two brothers being raised by their parents who are too ‘young and dumb’ to take care of them. The boys fend for themselves and often are neglected and left [...]

    12. This book is truly a rare find. The story took me on an emotional roller-coaster ride that had me literally crying tears of joy as well as sorrow.I chose this book because it was listed in the Christian Living section, but is also a novel. Because I just finished another Christian novel published by Thomas Nelson, I decided to check this one out. I definitely did not regret my choice. Normally when I pick up a novel, it takes at least a chapter or two to get into and know or care about the chara [...]

    13. Josh loved a stuffed rabbit given to him when the police took him and his two brothers out of the home where his parents left them unattended. He had no other toys. An accident and several foster homes later, separated from his two brothers, he finally went to a foster home in the country with them. Happy in his country home, another accident made angry foster parents kick him out. Then, the county made assumptions that led to possible adopters refusing to take him into their homes. 17. Even tho Josh and his two brothers didn't have what would be considered the "best" of parents, they were their parents. When their parents were killed in a car accident, they didn't know what to expect. They were sent to a series of foster homes but at least they were all together. They were finally sent to what would seem to be the perfect place for three growing, active boys. They could play outdoors and enjoy nature and even had neighbor children to play with. But, tragedy strikes and the boy [...]

    18. I was so surprised that I actually really enjoyed this book. Josh's story was so interesting to read and really opened my eyes to the world of foster care. I could feel his emotion and anger while going through life in the foster care system. There were times when this book made me really sad and there were times when I was happy. I really cared about Josh and how his life would end up especially when he was homeless. I wish that more time was spent on Josh's time in the foster care system as a [...]

    19. When I first started reading I thought "what a sad book". Soon I got caught up with what Josh was thinking and feeling and the sadness, while still there, took a backseat. I loved that he kept pushing through what life was throwing at him. It was still sad, but what I kept getting from it was how resilient was are, and that no matter how much hurt we suffer from those who should love us the most, we still have the capacity to love and be loved by others. The book was interesting from the first pa [...]

    21. If you are familiar with the Non fiction work Entitled "the Blessing" this is a fictional look at what a difference giving a blessing to others can make in the life of both the receiver AND the giver. The first part of the story is very hard reading so be warned but if you can make it past what the main character goes through it is a beautiful story of forgiveness and healing and the difference one person can make in a life. 22. I knew John Trent and his wife 30 years ago before he began to write about his life message, the blessing. Many people are telling stories now, using narrative to explain truth. This is a quick read. I loved how there was so little overt spiritual emphasis yet the reality of Christ's love is everywhere. This kind of reminds me of the book of Esther where "God" is never mentioned but He is everywhere. The ending is a good twist. It's really uplifting to read a book that is redemptive, uplifting an [...]

    23. "If you've ever doubted your ability to be a vessel of grace and healing in the life of someone who's hurting, you need to read "A Place Called Blessing." It is the story of a wounded soul named Josh, but chances are there is a Josh living next door to you or even sitting near you in the pew at church."--Jim Daly, president, Focus on the Family

    24. A cross between a Nicolas Sparks and a Jan Karon story this book tells the story of what can happen to life when someone makes the choice to bless them. I read this in about 3 hours and loved every minute of itought I knew what was going to happen and got a big surprise at the twist in the end!

    25. This wasn't what I expected but was very good. It is a fictional story used to illustrate the concepts and principles of his book, The Blessing, which was very formative for me. I'd read this first and then the blessing, as I think this is meant to be an introduction.

    26. LoveBeautiful reminder of speaking words of encouragement and love into the lives of those you do life with because of Gods unconditional love for us.

    27. The story was cute and had parts that were touching, but over all it was predictable. The writing left something to be desired. A quick and easy read.

    28. I liked this. The story was a little contrived, but for the purposes of teaching it had to be. I don't know if I'll have time to go over the study questions, but I hope to. Thanks Stacy!
