    1. Scars of Defiance is a truly enjoyable read. This novel isn’t just light romance, but has an undercurrent of politics and action. Before your eyes start glazing over with boredom, the politics in this story isn’t complex or a giant snooze-fest.     2. I liked Scars of Defiance. I thought the idea of dealing with people escaping a dictatorship for freedom was interesting. Often times I think we forget that this still happens today. It’s not just something that only happened in the past. I liked the main characters Sierra and Paul. I actually would have liked the story to cover a longer time span where the author could have really developed more complex characters and situations.

    3. I really didn't know what to expect when I started, but Lorena hooked me on the first page. The characters have depth, and the world she created has such texture that I even found myself thinking about it when I wasn't reading it.
