    1. Update 9/3/15: Re-read this because I saw it rec'd a lot as a great grovel and I couldn't really remember it. Maybe I blocked it. It's likely from my early GR phase of rating a bit higher than I really felt because I felt mean. AnywayI'm going from 3 stars down to 2. And I'm only giving 2 stars because I do love the go f* yourself speech the h made. The incongruity of the H's actions and his life's work was just irreconcilable two fancy, big words there ;) NE way. I'm not going to waste time rant [...]

    2. *Spoilers ahoy*I have had this book on my rubbernecking-tbr for a long time and finally I got down to it. It is an almost routine revenge story where the once-poor-but-now-billionaire H wants to take down the h’s evil immoral father who was responsible for his sister’s death. The sister had been forced into prostitution and the father had killed her when she refused to perform some act on him. The H assumes that the h must be as rotten as her father and treats her horribly. I usually can’t [...]

    3. There is a line for revenge a romance story should NEVER cross. This book STARTED on the other side of that line. The hero was beyond redemption. There was actually no sane reason or logic for the heroine to forgive him. She actually kinda didn't. The book basically should've finished at chapter nine when heroine kicked him out. She'd NEVER have seeked him out to listen to the his "excuses" and he was too much of a coward to come grovel. It was the prostitute he supposedly saved decided to meddle [...]

    4. WOW!such an intense wonderful readAlexie Constantin had lived through his teenage n adulthood with one goal in mind to destroy Giles Hawkwood and his empire at any cost and the most awaited times come when he gets that opportunity but he will take the revenge from Eve who is daughter of Giles Hawkwood,Alexie has already formed an image of Eve and believed Eve to be same as his father and hated her like anything and way he treated her with such cruelty, but Eve took everything and did as Alexie to [...]

    5. Very emotional very dark book. It will break your heart and make you cry. Writing style is weird. Lots of internal monologues and zero dialogue. Still very intense! Hero’s grovel was epic and so was heroine’s outburst!

    6. Oh, wow. Though the revenge premise might make this seem like your typical template-ish Harlequin Presents story it certainly wasn't. It was so intense it kept me riveted, and I ended up reading this in one sitting.First of all, I loved the two leads, Alexei and Eve, the spark was there from the get-go and the author just kept working on that, keeping it alive, keeping it fiery and hot. But what really set these two apart from the rest of HP lore is the fact there was a load of baggage on both s [...]

    7. this was not romance. if u read the description of dat night eve passed wid alexei !! how degrading, humiliatinghe took her like a whorebut even whores don't deserve this kind of treatment. after his revenge was all about his sister turned into a whore how cud he treat another woman like a whore !? he took her in all positions possible n the morning after he did not give her the reward he promised. it was very very much awful. i felt so disgusted n angry. he himself was the vilain in the story. [...]

    8. The hero Alexei is finally ready to get is revenge on a man called Giles Hawkwood. He is on his way to confront his enemy when he is captivated by a stunning woman. He follows her and they have a brief interaction and share a kiss before she runs away. The heroine Eve is shocked by the instant attraction she felt towards the mysterious man, but she leaves him fearing the wrath from her father if she is not by his side as he ordered. When Alexei arrives to confront Hawkwood he is crushed to disco [...]

    9. Another one recommended on the forum and while I liked the scene where the heroine gave the hero the verbal lashing he deserved for what he did to her, this is another one where talking to each other would have cleared up so many things.

    10. I won't be able to bring myself to read this book ever again. There's too much hurt that Alexei caused to Eve and I would never be able to forgive someone for that let alone be the one to go to them in the end. The only thing I liked about this book is that Eve slammed him with the truth hard and firm to the point where he couldn't get his head straight on what happened and how the whole situation flipped on him. I loved that she stood up for herself and lashed out at exactly how disgusted she w [...]

    11. Okay, I guess this one is kind of confuse me. The way Miss James writes is confusing. I don't know it's just, it doesn't suit me. I confuse. Alexei is the guy with grudge. He has a plan to get even and apparently the plan didn't work exactly like he wanted to. Because he fell for the daughter of his enemy. Eve, daughter of insanely abusive bussinessman, tend to put a mask everyday in her life. She didn't care about what people said about her, that she's a wild girl that always go to party, wavin [...]

    12. Speechless It ended. What can I really say about this one? I think about the story and tears instantly come to my eyes. This was an emotional story. Both the protagonists are somehow scarred. Alexei and Eve's story will make you cry, grit your teeth, scowl and growl. You will despise Alexei, you will misunderstand Eveen suddenly the truth is out and you can't help but feel bad for both of them. I started this book last night to help me sleep. It didn't, now I can't feel my fingers. I am typing a [...]

    13. This was an intense read. I think the crammed too much at the end to make them fall in love believable. How do you get from needing therapy because of what he did to falling in love in the same day. Not sure how I feel about this book. The hero made my skin crawl

    14. An interesting premise powerfully rendered in the end, but getting to that point was a little too melodramatic and filled with repetitive, urgent phrasing for me to properly enjoy.

    15. I wasn't wowed. Overly melodramatic. And I just didn't really feel the love between the main characters -- the ending was forced and rushed.

    16. This was a surprisingly long book for a Harlequin. I don't read these too often but I felt like it today. Wow, this is quite a heavy story. Typically you have the usual formula; forced or arranged marriage, hidden pregnancy, mistaken infidelity, painful misunderstandings, etc. This was quite a bit different. Two incredibly tortured characters who had loads of demons to exorcise. The journey is filled with such a level of angst and pain its overwhelming at moments. Yet the story is very powerful [...]

    17. Wow. That was one heavy duty M&B. I liked: That the h really gave it to the H in their confrontation. My God, she didn't pull any punches which was FANTASTIC! I was over the moon. Finally, a M&B h that lays out just how disgusting it is for a man to think he has the right to stand as judge over a woman's moral character simply because he has a penis, treating her as if she's some dog whose tail he thinks he has the right to pull and prod. Wow, she floored him and she was 100% right, whic [...]

    18. This one is not bad. Story was good even if the revenge theme is played out. I love the scene where Eve is telling the H off. Its like she stole the words right out of my mouth. However, I was a bit disappointed with the ending. It was felt kind of rushed. (view spoiler)[Where did the "love" come from. I can see how they can be considered close after all they did together and now knowing each others secrets, but love needs to grow not just appear. The book was actually pretty great until the las [...]

    19. A friend loaned me this book because it had a theme of sex trafficking and I had just represented an organization that fights against such trafficking at our church's mission conference. As another reviewer put it, the romance part was melodramatic and repetitive. I also skipped over the graphic parts. However, the plot twist at the end and the impassioned speech by the main character was quite good. This is not my usual choice in reading but I can see why my friend recommended it and I felt it [...]

    21. I loved Eve. I wanted to give her standing ovation for what she said to Alexie. She showed him to his face what he really was. A bastard. A degraded one at that. She should have made him grovel a bit more. He deserved that.Emotional, angsty and sad too.

    22. it's excellent book. well written, plot is good. love the books where H is totally wrong about h. and in the end he crawls and crawls XDi would give it 4 stars but that deus ex machina when it comes to Sofi. that should be solved somehow different. and all that melodrama in office so pathetic.

    23. This was a very emotional read for me. When the hero realized how badly he had misjudged and used the heroine he was devastated. His words were: "It crucified me". A great read from start to finish.

    24. This is a re-read for me – a totally engrossing story with an unsatisfying ending because it was so rushed and under developed. The premise: the hero is in full on revenge mode and comes to equate the sins of the father with his daughter. It doesn’t help that he is attracted to her and she is so shut down emotionally from her abusive father that she doesn’t tell him the truth before things get out of hand. By “things” I mean the hero’s ultimatum that the heroine must have sex with hi [...]
