    1. Priestley celebrates four of the great pleasures of his life. The section on painters and paintings is even though I didn't know much about them is helped by having reproductions of the works in question. The section on composers I found a slog as I didn't know the works Priestley talks about and have limited interest in the subject. Actors, well I knew quite a number of the performers from there films and Priestley the playwright talking (although not exclusively) about those he worked with is [...]

    2. Priestley's tastes are not mine, but I've always thought more highly of his essays and other nonfiction work than his fiction. He's a very charming writer.
