    1. If ever a book was created for a child with ADD, this is it. In a mix of narrative and comic book panels, 3 orphans escape from an orphanage intending to purchase tickets to America. When young Ned is kidnapped, a legendary British superhero comes to their aid: Springheeled Jack, a trickster type.Quotes from famous authors, like Hugo and Dickens, preface each chapter, with a variation of the quote becoming the opening line. This device takes an amusing turn when Pullman quotes himself, and the f [...]

Semuanya tipis, hanya berkisar di 100-an halaman saja.

Apalagi [...]

    4. Yeah, one star. I feel a little bad, because this book did not actively anger me. However, I didn't like anything about it.My book club selected this, because: Golden Compass! Sally Lockhart! Yeah!We haven't had our meeting yet, so I don't know what everyone else thought of it, but I was quite disappointed. The plot is very slight, and hackneyed in a Dickens-lite kinda way. Three siblings must escape from a horrible orphanage, and find themselves in need of help from a mysterious benefactor.Don't [...]

Kisah tentang keberanian melawan kejahatan. Jenaka dan kuat. Tak lekang oleh waktu *kemudian nyanyi*Ih, pokoknya bagus. Baca ajalah biar kenalan sama Jack si Pelompat.

    7. Part novella, part graphic novel. The format was annoying. Pullman I shall an excellent writer and the images served to hurry the story (so as to not slow down the pace with description, presumably). For me, it was rather distracting. Ok, it's a young person's story. Orphans in danger. Boo-able pantomime villain. Mysterious hero. But there's little substance to the story. Spring-heeled Jack comes in without reason like a Deus ex machina to save the day. It would have been really good if Pullman [...]

    8. If "The Golden Compass" was Pullman's attempt at an atheistic Narnia, this seems to be a pastiche of Lemony Snicket.Parts were amusing. Most wasn't. Not recommended.

    10. Spring-Heeled Jack (1989)by Philip Pullman (Author)Spring-Heeled Jack: The name evoked awe from both criminals and upstanding citizens alike. Some thought he was the devil, but he was actually the original superhero—leaping over the buildings of Victorian England with the help of springs in the heels of his shoes. The story begins as three young innocents escape their orphanage one dark and stormy night. As they make their way through the treacherous streets of London danger lurks, for hiding [...]

    11. Spring-heeled Jack is a classic adventure story of good versus evil. The plot opens with three children escaping from a horrible orphanage and being kidnapped by a gang of villains who try and steal their only prized possession - their silver locket. Whilst the three children try and escape their dreaded kidnappers, the managers at the orphanage look out to seek and bring back the children so they can carry on being mean and horrible to them. The kids need someone to help them find their way in [...]

    13. I was a bit disappointed in this one. It's hard to say how much of the problem is the dated design and cartoon/ caricature illustration style. The cover has been updated very nicely with a Peter Bailey illustration, and I wrongly assumed that the internal artwork would match it. Alas no. The story itself didn't really wow me either, which is unusual for Philip Pullman. But how much was down to the package it's delivered in? Who knowsI think the format is an interesting one, with a lot of potenti [...]

Terlalu kanak-kanak. Terlalu sederhana. Terlalu biasa. Hahaha. Nggak boleh ngeluh sebenarnya, namanya juga novel anak-anak kan, ya? me:freak!Anyway, faktor siapa yang nerjemahin juga ngaruh ya, at least, [...]

    15. Another Mr.Pullman's story. Lucu.

:<)(hide spoiler)]Lalu, say [...]

    17. Poor orphan children are desperate to escape from the Dickensian squalor of the orphanage. They are beset, besieged and bothered by criminals and villains alike. But wait! Who could that be, there in the shadows? It’s the enigmatic, mystifying, terrifying Spring-Heeled Jack! This amusing, satirical tale of a titular hero (who is a terror to villains and good folk alike) marches swiftly apace. The tongue-in-cheek story of how the children escape their captors gallops wittily along with comic ill [...]

    18. This entertaining book is half-chapter book, half-comic book, a little spoof, & all fun. Spring-Heeled Jack, a Victorian character of stories called "Penny Dreadfuls", truly was the first superhero, able to leap the buildings & darker nooks of London in a single bound with the springs in his boot heels, although he was half-hero, half-villain. This story finds him coming to the aid of three children, Lily, Rose, & Little Ned, who have escaped their grim orphanage home in the hopes of [...]

    19. (1989) Three orphans (Rose, Lily, and little Ned) embark on the adventure of their lives when they decide to escape from their orphanage in order to board a ship that is set to sail to the United States. In the process, little Ned is abducted by infamous villain Jack the Ripper and Rose and Lily are recaptured by the people who own the greedy people who own the orphanage. Thankfully the children are saved by Spring-Heeled Jack, a somewhat scary looking but kind superhero. With the help of Spring [...]

    20. gr 3-5 112pgsVictorian England. Orphans Rose, Lily, Ned, and their dog Spangle escape from the evil orphanage only to run straight into villain Mack the Knife who kidnaps Ned. With the help of Victorian super hero Spring-heeled Jack, Lily and Rose hope to rescue him. Meanwhile a man who believes his wife and children are dead waits to sail to Australia in the morning. Could this man be Lily, Rose, and Ned's father?Quick, humorous story. The author explains that Spring-heeled Jack was a legendary [...]

    21. I picked up this book because: Phillip Pullman. I checked out this book because of the first sentence: In Victorian times, before Superman and Batman had been heard of, there was another hero I was intrigued by this book because it is an interesting chapter book/graphic novel hybrid. But I just didn't like this book nearly as much as I thought I would. If all the gimmicks were removed from the story, the story would not be especially strong. And there was the downfall. Actual rating: 2.5 stars, [...]

    22. Spring-Heeled Jack (first published in the U.S.A. in 1991) by Whitbread Award-winning author Philip Pullman and illustrated by David Mostyn, tracks the Victorian hero's attempts to save three hapless orphans from the Alderman Cawn-Plaster Memorial orphanage who were travelling alone on the streets of London. Comic book-style illustrations are interspersed throughout. As readers could easily feel, this funny book has a Dickensian spin. Philip Pullman also displayed his wittiness in wordplay amid [...]

Siapapun Jack si Pelompat, asal dia membantu menumpas kej [...]

    24. cerita yang menarik, diilhami oleh cerita rakyat inggris tentang seorang pembela kebenaran misterius berjuluk spring-heeled jack .enpedia/wiki/Spring_Hdibuat dalam format nomik (novelette-komik), ceritanya cukup sederhana dan akan mudah dimengerti untuk ukuran cerita anak2, kecuali kalau anaknya kritis menanyakan bermacam pertanyaan tentang si jack:Ddiselesaikan sambil menunaikan salah satu "things that can not be mentioned" menjelang mandi pagi.*grin*

    26. My son had recommended this title, but by Mark Hodder. When I was searching the library catalogue I also saw this, and, having enjoyed His Dark Materials etc. by Pullman, I thought I'd borrow this little book too. It's fun - cleverly illustrated, and a good children's book.

    27. I thought this book was quirky and funny. It had cute cartoons and a great story. I love how Pullman took an 19th century "penny dreadful' That was read by Brits all over England and made it into a comic story. I think I would recommend this book to my friends that have any likelihood to enjoy this. Pullman is one of my favorite authors and he still hasn't made a book I would think of criticizing. --E
