    1. There are not enough stars on to show my appreciation for this book. As a youth librarian for a deep love of all things hockey related (especially picture books) I'm always pouncing on any title that comes off the press with the words "hockey", "hero", and some mention of the Greats. Not all make the cut however. Needless to say that this book meets all my expectations. And then some. Why?Because octopi. Many many thrown octopi. The Red Wings would not be the Red Wings (even the fictional junior [...]

    2. An inspirational and heart-warming picture book about rising to the challenge when self-doubt get the better of you. Tommy Toomay comes from a long line of hockey athletes, yet he has reservations about showing his stuff out there on the ice. Shy and bullied by other kids for his stuttering, Tommy would rather sit on the sidelines and handle the stats. Patiently and with love, his grandpa, a former NHL hockey player, sees his potential and encourages him with consistency and instills confidence [...]

    3. Thanks to Tundra Books and LibraryThing Early Reviewers for this book!Hockey Hero is a well-made 40-page picture book for readers at about the 2nd-4th grade level. It features 8-year-old Tommy Toomay who comes from a hockey-loving family and loves the sport himself, though he's afraid to get on the ice in front of a crowd. He has an anxious stuttering problem and is bullied by other kids. His kind grandfather, who works at the Hockey Hall of Fame, coaches Tommy in private and is an all-out crazy [...]

    4. Thanks to Tundra and LibraryThing for a free copy of Hockey Hero by Zachary Hyman!Tommy Toomay loves hockey -- but he's shy, he stutters, the other kids make fun of him, and he refuses to get out on the ice. But soon, he's the only player who can keep his team from forfeiting the game. Can he rise to the occasion -- and wearing hte gear of his idols, no less?Much like Hyman's previous book, The Bambino and Me, Hockey Hero combines a passion for sport with a wonderful message and beautiful artwor [...]

    5. This book is beautifully written and illustrated with a theme of finding the magic within you. It's funny and a great way to hook boys that are reluctant to read. Well done!

    6. Eight-year-old Tommy Toomay comes by his love for hockey naturally. After all, his beloved grandfather played the sport professionally, and his younger brother is a talented athlete. Despite his grandfather's individual coaching, Tommy is too shy to compete. His shyness and the fact that he stutters causes some bullies to tease him. During the Red Wings' championship game, though, Tommy has no choice but to hit the ice since his teammates have too many penalties to play. Knowing how nervous his [...]

    7. Hockey fans will be drawn to this fast-paced story of magic on the ice!Illustrations with expressionistic faces bring the emotion up close.

    8. A little too heavy for my one year old, but still a great read. We will revisit this one once he's older. As a native Detroiter now living in Toronto, it was great to see all the Red Wing love, Hamilton hockey club love and love for the Hockey Hall of Fame. Nice introduction to the greats.
