    1. Lol! I hadn't realized when I started this it was a novella - wondered why my Kindle's reading progress went up a percent every time I turned a page. Nice quick read and I suspect a little preparation for the next in the series? And yes, Gage is still the yummiest man in a book. Or at least pretty high up there.

    2. 3.5 starsFans of Anna Lee Huber’s Lady Darby mysteries have followed the adventures of the unusual and talented Keira Darby and her fellow investigator, the gorgeous Sebastian Gage through four books, now, in which the couple has gone from an initial mistrust and animosity to grudging respect, liking, the stirrings of attraction and, finally, love. At the end of the third book, A Grave Matter Gage proposed and in the fourth, A Study in Death, they were an engaged couple, working alongside each [...]

    3. Originally reviewed at The Book Adventures.I've been a fan of Anna Lee Huber since the first Lady Darby mystery. A Pressing Engagement is a short novella that whets readers appetites for the fifth book's release this July.A Pressing Engagement takes place just days before Kiera's marriage to inquiry agent, Sebastian Gage. For those that have been following the series, you will recognize the fact that these days are fraught with anxieties for Kiera due to the ghosts of her horrible first marriage [...]

    4. A fun mini mystery novella involving the much anticipated wedding for Gage and Kiera fans. (Seriously. We have waited for awhile for this wedding.) Kiera is struggling with the her inner demon memories of her first marriage. Nerves and anxieties have her looking for any excuse to leave the house and the twentieth dress fitting. When her cousin Jock presents her with the Celtic torc; the one with the history we were introduced to in previous books, she must find resolution to the mystery and owne [...]

    5. A wonderful novella about the wedding of Kiera and Gage, who are almost too busy investigating to make it to their own wedding. As with all of the Lady Darby books, these are not stand-alone and best read in order.

    6. Ratimg: 3.5/5A nice, little filler story dedicated to the fans of the series and as a set up for the next instalment. Although the mystery wasn't all that interesting, I really enjoyed reacquainting myself with the characters and the interactions of Keira especially with her sister (they have a nice heart-to-heart towards the end), the various relatives, and of course Gage (whom I still have the biggest crush on). I'm glad Huber decided to show us their wedding though everyone felt so stuffy bac [...]

    7. A nice little amuse-bouche of a novella set just before the wedding of Gage and Kiera. Kiera's sister is throwing her a big ass ol' wedding and Kiera isn't feeling it. But she wants to make her sister happy and doesn't their whole family deserve some sort of celebration after all the crap? So Kiera grins and bears it but in the meantime she lets herself solve just one or two leetle little mysteries just before the wedding in the form of a retrieving a diary for our favorite outlaw, Bonnie Brock, [...]

    8. A New Beginning !I almost skipped A Pressing Engagement by Anna Lee Huber in order to read Ms. Hubert's next novel, but my intuition said,"No!". I am very pleased I did read it. This is a great story of the engaged couple and characters they met previously, events that take place during their engagement and preparation for the wedding, their wedding, and their new beginning. Well done!

    9. What an absolute delight this novella was! Not only do we have an anxious bride, a Celtic torc as a wedding gift and Bonnie Brock calling in his favour, but we have Earl Grey acting strange! Add in some wild weather, Lord Gage and champagne and you have a delicious mix of mood, menace and humour. This was the perfect build up to Lady Darby and Sebastian Gage's wedding day!

    10. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this novella. Reading about Gage and Kiera's little adventure before their wedding was a lot of fun. I also loved the interaction between the two. Reading about each blush and each affectionate touch was so sweet! Now I can't wait until July for the next release!

    11. A Pressing Engagement was a novella I wanted to get to before starting the newest Lady Darby, As Death Draws Near. It covers the day before Kiera's marriage to Sebastian Gage, and the wedding itself. This is a series that has grown on me as I wasn't all that fond of the first of the books. Kiera and Sebastian are dealing with just one last investigation before the wedding. It concerns an antique torque (necklace) that was given to Kiera as a wedding gift. The investigating pair have been told of [...]

    12. This novella takes place on the day before and the day of the wedding between Lady Darby and Sebastian Gage, so there's some fun for fans of the series to see the wedding preparations and actual day. Of course, there is a quick inquiry to take care of on the day before the wedding and we get a revisit by Bonnie Brock Kincaid who wants to cash in his favor from the previous novel. Another fine tale that will delight fans.

    13. A nice enough little novella, though nothing too meaty, detailing some events that occur just before the final two paragraphs of the last (fourth) book. :-)

    14. Anna Lee Huber packed so much into this novella that takes place over two days. Leave it to Kiera Darby to become involved in an inquiry the day before her wedding. The action was rapid, taking her and Gage all over Edinburgh, while at the same time allowing participation in all of the wedding activities. I loved the description of Kiera's gown, the decorations, the wedding, and the food. This was a very satisfying selection.

    15. This short story (80 pages) continues the storyline, filling in the readers about the day before the characters wed. The author made sure to include all my favorite characters, and the story was an abbreviated story that fit seamlessly into the series. I felt like it could have been a full length book, as conversations felt chopped up, and the storyline was crammed into one day, but overall, it was an enjoyable read.

    16. This was just okay. I liked it, but I felt like it lacked depth. Everything went too fast. I guess that's par for the course in novellas, but something I love about this series is the way Huber conveys dark/macabre elements, while still making me feel happy to be reading it.I appreciated another appearance by Bonnie Brock, and I do enjoy how Huber ties in elements of her previous novels - though there is often too much summarizing involved.

    17. This is the first of the series that I READ instead of listened to. It was interesting to see the names in print! The story was intriguing and felt complete, even though it was short. I liked that it tied up one of the mysteries left unsolved in a previous book. Very nice!

    18. It was nice to actually see the wedding, and some of the dialog between the main characters was well done. Since we are privy to Keira's every thought, I found it disappointing not to have any insight into the intimacies shared between her and her new husband.

    19. This is a good novella with a little mystery the day before Keira's and Gage's wedding. Truly it wasn't much of a mystery, but the story was sweet. I desperately wish this series was a bit steamier, but I don't think I'm getting that wish fulfilled.

    20. Not really a short story fan but I quite enjoyed this little tidbit. It revealed a little more about Bonnie Brock and Earl Grey the mischievous kitty made some impromptu appearances ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2 of 5

    21. Quick mystery that conveniently wraps up a previously thought loose end from an earlier book. Sweet and funny backdrop.

    22. ExcellentI enjoyed the little short mystery Lady Darby and Gage. Looking forward to reading the next Lady Darby mystery. I love the 1830's Scotland

    23. What's nice about this novella, is that instead of one long murder, you get three short and fun mysteries. A real page turner with all you would expect from a Lady Darby mystery.

    24. Release day of Anna Lee Huber’s A Pressing Engagement is here! Fans of Lady Darby rejoice! Today is the day we get to see Kiera marry the man that can give her the happiness that she deserves. Today is the day we see Kiera and Sebastian happily wed!If you read A Study in Death, you might remember that at the end, Kiera hinted that the wedding does not go smoothly. In fact there are a few challenges in the couple of days before the wedding. But those challenges are nothing that Kiera and Gage c [...]

    25. I loved this novella!!! I've seen a number of comments on here complaining about it being short. Well, it is a novella and therefore, by definition it is shorter than a novel. Frankly, I think it is the perfect size. It covers from a day or two before the wedding through the wedding day.Lady Darby, being Lady Darby, is totally not interested in all of the wedding plans and preparations. They make her very apprehensive because she doesn't like being 'on display' and at the center of attention. So [...]
