    1. 5 Words: Crime, family, love, betrayal, cult. That was fantastic. This series is just incredible. The thing that I love the most about this series is the evocative descriptions of the North East. More than the twisting, turning story, more than the intense chemistry between the characters, more than the amazing DCI Ryan, more than the history, it's the descriptions that have me coming back time and again.Read a passage. Close your eyes. Get lost.I love the historical influences in the story. I lo [...]

    2. HEAVENFIELD by author L.J. Ross is the third in the series (DCI Ryan Mysteries #3). I have read the previous two book in the series; Holy Island and Sycamore Gap, but I loved this one the best. I recommend reading these in order. This is a fast paced crime thriller set in the North East of England. The plot is believable and the characters come alive in this setting. “When a man is found dead at the remote church of Heavenfield, DCI Ryan is the only other person for miles around. The police hav [...]

    3. 4.5★The Circle. Weird, wicked and evil. As soon as the police plan to question someone, they turn up dead. One suspect is already in prison – couldn’t be him. Or could it? The story opens with a chilling death, as Ross’s previous two books have. The location is equally scenic, and the beauty of the place makes the activities of The Circle even worse.“The sun made its final descent into the horizon at its back, casting deep amber rays over the fields while stars began to pop high in the [...]

    4. Will the Circle be unbroken? Or will DCI Maxwell Ryan finally split up the tightly twisted, tangled cult that has haunted Northumbria and eluded Ryan and his team for far too long. Wait! Ryan is still serving his suspension by Superintendent Gregson. Not only that, but when a man is found dead in the old Heavenfield Church, Ryan is the only person in the vicinity and finds himself involved in a scrum to clear himself of suspicion. That puts DI Denise Mackenzie in charge of the case. It doesn’t [...]

    5. This series is just on a winning streak and no wonder L.J. Ross is having so much success with it. It's just got so much going for it - great plot, memorable characters, nice twists, sexy intelligent detective, great location and setting, good writing. What more do you want right? Great fiction! If you have not yet experienced this series you can pretty much start anywhere with it. I have also recently read book four and that one is bloody fantastic also. Of course starting at the beginning is ne [...]

    6. This is third in a series featuring DCI Ryan. HOLY ISLAND and SYCAMORE GAP were the first two books I highly recommend reading these in order. After receiving a text message that he should go to a remote church of Havenfield, DCI Ryan finds a dead body. The body of a man who has been involved with the Circle a satan-worshipping group of rich, powerful men and women. They will stop at nothing to protect themselves. As luck would have it, local law enforcement walks in as Ryan is standing over the [...]

    7. Heavenfield is the third book featuring DCI Ryan and follows on from the events in Holy Island and Sycamore Gap: A DCI Ryan Mystery. These have been getting better and better. This one is definitely my favourite. The history that is weaved into the story and the atmospheric settings in the North East of England combined with the fast-paced, clever plot and the fantastic characters made this an excellent crime thriller. I would love to see Ryan, Anna, MacKenzie and Phillips investigating other ca [...]

    8. I have read the first two in this series and thoroughly enjoyed them, but this book was just not for me. The story felt like it dragged out, like it was being forced. The writing seemed to stall at critical times and I found myself looking back through the pages to see if I missed something. Don't get me wrong, L.J. Ross is a very talented writer and I would definitely read more from her in the future, this one just didn't do anything for me.

    9. I had been saving Heavenfield since its release because I didn’t know when the next installment of the DCI Ryan series would be released. And then I saw the cover reveal on FB and it’s coming soon so needless to say I hopped onto my kindle straight away to get into it! As you all know, I love a good series and LJ Ross’s books are no exception. Reading these books is like catching up with old friends. There’s comfort in picking up the books because you know you won’t be disappointed.I d [...]

    10. If I told you that this was the third book in this series that I have listened in the space of a week, then you’ll probably be able to guess how much I am loving it. From that very first introduction to DCI Ryan and team up on Holy Island, I have been hooked and each story has been cementing my love more. After two cracking tales in Holy Island and Sycamore Gap, could Heavenfield keep the pace and my attention. Oh by ‘eck yes. This instalment brings the reader and DCI Ryan full circle, back t [...]

    11. Stunning mysteryHaving read and enjoyed the first two books in the DCI Ryan series, I was thrilled when the author offered me an ARC of her newest instalment, Heavenfield, and as soon as I received it I started reading it straight away. And once again I found myself lost in beautiful Northumberland As a lover of history, I'm always keen to discover and learn about magnificent historical locations and buildings and ancient events and battles. And reading this author's books I always end up on Goo [...]

    12. It was great to catch up with Ryan again. Even though he still very much has his demons to overcome, we certainly see a more lighter and a touch of the romantic side to him. This brought a whole new light to the story and made it even more enjoyable.Theres a reference to Cabot Cove in the story which of course is where the famous Jessica Fletcher lives. (A big murder/mystery TV show in it’s day just incase you haven’t heard of it). Even though this series is very much one of mystery and susp [...]

    13. WOW! Am I ever enjoying LJ Ross’ DCI Ryan Mysteries! Just finished Heavenfield by LJ Ross and I would like to meet DCI Ryan. The character is so determined to do right by the people who have been murdered that he is willing to take on ‘the persons at the top’ which normally is not the best of ideas. Ryan, his selected team members, and, of course, Anna gather to decide just how to approach this task. As the meeting is at Anna’s place, she will need to repaint a wall as Ryan with black ma [...]

    14. Disappointed in this one in the series, quite unimpressed actually. Hope the next one returns to form.

    15. Spoilers, maybe but I doubt itThis one started with a man being killed and Ryan being accused of killing him. That was a good start, I thought. And, wow, everything just went crazy in this book: Gregson going after Ryan, trying to get him thrown off the force, and the deal with Gregson’s wife, 2 prison/hospital deaths while they were already looking into another killer’s death. And if some of you don’t know what I’m talking about and think I’m giving up spoilers I’m not, for those of [...]

    16. Another stunning tale surrounding DCI Ryan. Heavenfield completes “the circle” of the first 3 books in the DCI Ryan series- everyone being un-put-down-able!This one starts with Ryan’s girlfriends father figure being murdered in strange circumstances and putting Ryan himself as a suspect. More suspicious murders follow and Ryan is in a quandary in more than one way. Karma is served mixed in with you reap what you sow…As ever a book that flows. Excellent descriptions of the surrounding are [...]

    17. I received a free copy from the author and Booklover Catlady Publicity in exchange for an honest review. Thank you so much!I honestly never thought that this series could get any better, but I stand corrected. I don't know if it's because I've gotten to know and like the characters so much, or because the author is getting more confident in her writing, but Heavenfield is simply amazing. The story starts with the death of one of the characters we love to hate, and it snowballs from there. The ac [...]

    18. L J Ross Heavenfield. 5*Compelling from the first chapter, Heavenfield set in a Northumbrian church believed to be the site of a battle in 635AD. Again we have DCI Ryan and his team up against the dark forces who see him as a danger to them. Another excellent read from this author who is winning plaudits for her skill has a writer. Another great atmospheric book set in the wilds of the North East.

    19. The third and final book in this series proved to be the best of the lot. Murder, mystery, intrigue and suspense, this book has it all. Massive thanks to Booklover Catlady Publicity for letting me have a copy of this brilliant book.

    20. Well, I didn't see that coming!Heavenfield is another cracking read in the DCI Ryan series. I loved books 1&2 and I think the series is just getting better and better. I was hooked from the very first page, which didn't surprise me at all having read the first two books. LJ Ross has a way of drawing you in immediately and, so far, I have been treated to three excellent stories, all of which follow on from each other. The series is set in a beautiful part of our country which I wish I was clo [...]

    21. This series is going from strength to strength and it's a pleasure to re-visit DCI Ryan and all the other regular characters. This is book three in the series and I would advise reading them in order. I've never visited Northumbria but it sounds wonderful. I would highly recommend this crime series.

    22. This third book in the DCI Ryan series sees our long suffering Detective trying to weed out root of evil that is growing deep within our society, only this time the tables are turning.Following the last run in with the wrong 'uns in Black Cloaks and their clandestine gatherings, his relationship with Archeologist / Historian Anna grounds him during his suspension from the force while he's sitting at home twiddling his thumbs. That is until he receives a mysterious phone call requesting his presen [...]

    23. Heavenfield is the third instalment of the DCI Ryan series (which I am currently hooked on, I blame another book blogger for this addiction, (Kate - bibliophilebookclub made it sound wonderful that I just had to check the series out and her reviews haven't steered we wrong yet!).Following on from the adventures in Sycamore Gap, our plucky protagonist finds himself in a whole world of trouble. Stuck at home still servicing his suspension it's not long before a mysterious tip off comes his way, re [...]

    24. Many thanks to the author for a copy in exchange for an honest review. She has done it again. The author has managed to produce a third book equally as good, if not slightly more, as the first two books in the series. Due to the recurring theme throughout the books thus far you do need to read them in order to fully enjoy the series.Ryan is once again thrown into the midst of the action, but not quite in the same way as before. He has to work hard not only to clear his name, but also to try and f [...]

    25. LJ Ross is doing everything just about perfect with this series. This is the third installment in this series featuring DCI Maxwell Ryan. While the tropes and themes Ross uses here aren't necessarily ground-breaking, they hit all the right notes for fans of British detective stories, leaving no reason for such fans to not pick these up & devour them quickly. The series is set in Northumbria, lending itself well to a sense of isolated gloom, a perfect place for The Circle to gain a foothold. Th [...]

    26. This is book number 3 in the DCI Ryan series and it is another good read. It very much follows on from the first two books so I would recommend reading them in order to fully appreciate what is happening. The story opens with Ryan being present at a killing and therefore the prime suspect in the investigation. Soon after DCS Gregson's wife disappears and he is attached at his home. Is it as it seems or is there more to it than is initially apparent? Ryan and his team aren't sure who can be truste [...]

    27. LJ Ross has written her third and best book of this series so far. This story wraps up the first two and probably should not be read as a stand alone. This is a thrilling chase for killers through the north east of England and there is shocks for both the reader and the characters throughout the book. The ending is truely inspired and a work of literary art. Old school murder mystery fans will love it.The mix of modern and vold school cultures in this book is just divine. As long as the author keep [...]

    28. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.L.J. Ross just gets better and better!"Heavenfield" is the 3rd book in the "DCI Ryan mysteries" series, and is definitely the best so far. I absolutely loved it.I wasn't a massive fan of crime novels, but then I started this series. I'm converted. Be sure to read "Holy Island" and "Sycamore Gap" before you read this book - you'll get so much more out of it.My only regret? That L.J. Ross doesn't write faster!!
