    1. A boy can't afford tap shoes so he uses thumbtacks in his regular shoes. He really wants to take tap lessons but isn't allowed into the studio until he has proper shoes. Lack of money get him down but then he starts dancing. His street dancing impresses people who leave him a little money. A dream comes true when he makes enough to get the precious tap shoes.I really liked the washed out images with the more focused ones, all done in watercolor. 2. Leslie Tyron tells a beautiful story of a boy who loves dancing, but can't afford tap shoes. Gus dances his way into the hearts of many as he realizes he can make his dream come true just by dancing with his thumb tack shoes. I didn't love the illustrations and felt that they could have really enhanced the story in much stronger ways.

    3. Really liked this! The story was engaging, and I just had to know how it was going to end! (And for whatever reason, it made me think of Gregory Hines.)The illustrations were pretty good - they did a marvelous job of expressing movement, but some of the faces were almost scary.

    4. I wanted to like this! I like the protagonist's energy and love of dance! But the dance teacher was so unreasonably and unrealistically mean that I couldn't suspend disbelief to get behind the plot. Oh well.

    5. I liked the story okay, but the illustrations were not my favorite I think the artist was trying to capture movement and energy but it seemed undone and sometimes the people's faces looked almost grotesque.

    6. I liked the feel of this book, but the blurry artwork was not my favorite. I understand that Gilchrist was trying to capture the boy's incessant motion, but in some pictures he is literally a blur and you can't tell what he is supposed to be doing. I was also puzzled regarding the tacks. Does he actually have thumbtacks in his shoes? How does that work? The teacher was a jerk, too. Lots of promise in this one but it just fell flat for me.
