To [...]

    2. This was the first in a series and was a great first book because Gard Sveen had the ability to change his person who killed Agnes Gerner, a child, and a man, several times running. I won't let the cat out of the bag but he really takes you for a ride. It's about WWII in Norway and it really gets involved in spies. Only years later. I would suggest that you read this book. It won three awards the first year it was published in Norway.

    3. Loved every momentEverything about this book intrigued me: the historical background, the characters, and of course, the writing. This was a superb mystery that had me guessing until the end.

    4. A very interesting protagonist -- a cop who is also a domestic abuser. A very compelling mystery, in which his personal demons direct, to some extent, how he approaches this case. I'm not sure that I want to spend more time with Tommy Bergrenn; but at the same time, I want to know how and if he resolves his personal issues.

    5. Before I start my review, I would like to thank Crossing and NetGalley for allowing me to review The Last Pilgrim by Gard Sveen and Steven Murray.*All opinions stated in this review are mine and mine alone. I received The Last Pilgrim from Crossing through NetGalley as an ARC for my honest and unbiased review**Now onto my review:I didn’t like this book when I first started reading it and did have a lot of problems keeping my attention focused 100% on it. But after I got past the first few chap [...]

Noen uker ette [...]

    10. Great debut novel.Tommy Bergmann is world weary Norwegian cop who is called to investigate the remains of 2 adults and a child dating from World War 2 found in a popular Oslo forest. The case gets under his skin despite his boss’s call to not spend extra time on the old case leading him to uncover some dark secrets in Norway's World War 2 resistance past.Translated from the Norwegian by Steven Murray the story rattles along at quite a pace flashing between the present day and World War 2. Some [...]

    11. Although the premise is interesting, the skipping back and forth from present to past is annoying. I don't always feel that way about two time-lines, but in this book it felt manipulative. None of the characters have any depth or background. How and why Agnes decided to risk her life as a spy is a bare sketch. Information is withheld in a sneaky way and information, when it is revealed, doesn't feel natural.

    13. Too longI found the plot interesting but reading was a slog. It would have been good at half the length. I will try his next book but drop it if I find it also overlong.

    16. In "The Last Pilgrim" we follow two different storylines: One follows Police Inspector Tommy Bergmann who sets out to solve two murder cases that he thinks are somehow interlinked: the murder of senior citizen Carl Oscar Krogh and the mystery of three skeletons found in the woods that date back to the second world war. The other storyline follows Agnes Gerner who goes into deep cover within Norwegian Nazis for the Brits to work as a spy during second world war. Both storylines evolve rather slow [...]

    17. Norjalaisen Gard Sveenin esikoiskirja Raskaat varjot nappasi vuonna 2014 parhaalle pohjoismaiselle rikosromaanille myönnettävän Lasiavain-palkinnon.

    19. Very goodI started off this novel being quite disappointed - it took until I got about 25% of the way through for me to get involved in it. Was so glad I persevered! Although I’m not sure what ‘lung mash’ is and I don’t think I want to know, am glad this is not a book with photos. Looking forward to the next the novel.

    20. Jos tää ois ollu mun eka lukemani Sveen, niin en jatkaisi enää tokaan osaan. Toka osa tuli kuitenkin sattumalta luettua ensiksi ja oli pahuksen hyvä, joten kolmatta osaa odotellessa.

    21. Great book ! Couldn't put it down!! Intriguing, and fast moving with good ending. Enjoyed it a lot. I read a lot & found the writing different, but engaging

    22. Loved this storyThis book was hard to put down. I enjoyed the two mysteries being told and how they intertwined. The names were sometimes difficult to keep straight as I switched from listening and reading while on a trip, but I thoroughly enjoyed this story. You never knew how the past and present murders were going to end, and I enjoyed the storyline regarding WWII. It was refreshing to read a story about a female spy.
