    1. Obviously, this book falls under the genre of folktales in traditional literature. Now, this was a book that I ended up seeing on the shelf and decided to give it a try. I am not Jewish so when I started reading I felt very disconnected from the stories in the book. But, I can deeply respect the culture behind these stories. You can see from the cover alone, that the illustrations in this book are highly centered around traditional Jewish attire and physical attributes. There are many stories in [...]

    2. The oral tradition of storytelling is one of the oldest forms of performing in the world. Tales passed down through the generations were intended not only to entertain the listeners but to educate and enlighten and keep memories of bygone eras alive. Nowadays, we have photos, newspapers, movies, historical novels and the internet. Therefore, such a book as this one is a charming window into another world and time. These tales are funny or sobering, sage and amusing. Intertwined with them are the [...]

    3. Through a granddaughter's perspective, this book was written well. The author tells of her experiences of listening to her grandmother telling Jewish folk tales. I like how the author provided a descriptive background, prior to the transition into each folk tale told. She describes the happenings that occurred prior to a story, to help the reader understand the Jewish culture. As I read this children's book, I noticed the incredibly strong relationship between grandmother and granddaughter, much [...]

    4. Very nice collection of Jewish folk tales. Each story is told by the narrator's grandmother, with plenty of details about her apartment and community, which provides depth and context. My only complaint is that it seemed to end abruptly. Needs a coda. Beautiful illustrations.

    5. This collection of folktales had a variety of different tones to them. I thought they were interesting. Each story is told by the author's grandmother. The way each story is introduced is by a memory of a time with her grandmother. By the end of the book you have gotten to read many stories, but also gotten to know a little bit about the author's life. The folk tales definitely had classic, easily recognized characters (good guys and bad guys). The stories where chronological with the climax of t [...]

    6. Title: My Grandmother 19s StoriesGrade Level: 1st-7th gradeSummary: This book is made up of ten different stories that this girl 19s grandmother told her. Each story started by the girl looking around the grandmother 19s apartment, which sparks the grandmother 19s memory. All of these stories are told to the young girl to teach her some sort of lesson.Review: I thought that this book was well written. The illustrations are beautifully colored, and older looking. I liked that each story that the [...]

    7. A young girl spends time in her grandmother’s apartment and, mixed in with her descriptions of their home, its furnishings, visitors, and meals and holidays, are ten folktales that her grandmother passes on to her. The black and white and color illustrations by Jael Jordan interspersed throughout the book and on the cover are dreamy but rather dreary.

    8. A charming assortment of Jewish folktales told by a grandmother to a little girl. Some of my favorites are in this one! I read it out loud to my kids over a series of nights and they loved it.

    9. Grew up on this book and still some of my favorites. Especially remember the ball of string. I loved how it was layered, starting in the grandmother's house and building outward into a story.
