Berggren explains the historical context well, but the mathematical explanations are terrible.

I'm always a sucker for history of math and science, but this book was particularly interesting because I hadn't realized how much math I had taken for granted. A lot of brilliant work over many centuries went into what today is taught in middle and elementary schools.
